Nur-Jehan's Welcome Ceremony

Nur-Jehan's Welcome ceremony was great! For those that don't know I privately fantasize alot about how different events are going to happen in my life and most of them fall short of my glorious imagination, BUT I really couldnt ask for more for our daughter's Aqiqah (birthing ceremony). There were Pittsburgh Muslims, Pittsburgh family and friends that came to support. We had it in a beautiful venue in Homewood. I managed to cook half of the food prepared for the guests including lamb stew. Mmmmmmm mmm good!

We arranged the ceremony so that all of the guests gathered in the center of the venue (around the sofas) and we passed Jehan around the circle to a select group of family and community. Everyone was to say a prayer in her right ear. She traveled from the right starting with her father then me, onto my mother, Kibwe's mother and my grandmother. It was really touching for me when Kibwe' father arrived and was able to participate. Jehan was so agreeable. She was patient and listened to everyone without one peep. I thought she would be whiny since she had just awakened and needed to be changed and fed. But she was peaceful.

I am thankful to all that came to her ceremony. And to all that wanted to come, but couldn't for whatever reason. I am really thankful to Helen for letting us host the event in her venue, Chantal for being a a GREAT support, the sisters: SarahJamillah, Rasheedah, and Denna. AND the brothers: Salahudin, Talib and Dawud for all showin' love.
